RE:PLAY

Alright, so I missed the Facebook event with all the details. I can’t imagine what any of the bands will sound like, but what the hey:

Hear Music in a Different Beat

Think there’s nothing in common between the melodic strums of your electric guitar and the emotive strings of the Indian sitar?

Think again as four popular contemporary bands collaborate with traditional musicians at this year’s Night Festival. Join us and rediscover Singapore’s culture through a showcase of music of the past and present coming together in a one-of-a-kind performance.

See Culture in a Different Light

Come stay up late with the National Museum, Singapore Art Museum and the Peranakan Museum as they open shop and offer free admission to their galleries till 2am this Night Festival.

From soulful jazz numbers to public art installations, from night bazaars to touring exhibitions in the dark, there’s plenty of entertainment and activities for all.

Museums SEE DIFFERENT

Night Festival @ SMU this coming weekend, with Amateur Takes Control, Lunar Node, and I expect quite a few more bands, but information is sorely lacking on the internets or I’m looking in the wrong places.
For This Cycle is having his EP launch at *scape this Saturday, 7pm.
17th July (Friday) sees Inch Chua playing solo at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre at 730 and 10pm.
18th July, Anna Judge April’s EP launch at *scape, 6pm, with guest bands Duxton Plains, Deputy Siren and Allura.

Haven’t been posting much in the way of local music, so I’m just here to say Amateur Takes Control rocked the Esplanade tonight. They did a couple of new songs, some weird math rock vibes and Adel mumbled something about post-punk. I guess the next EP will be interesting.

Unfortunately I left the house too late to catch Everybody Loves Irene (all the way from Jakarta), and I couldn’t stay for West Grand’s gig at the recital studio. Too many things happening at once!

I would complain about my lack of gig kakis (The E only went with me today because of one ATC song), but pretty soon I won’t have the time for any gigs at all. RACHAEL FREAKING YAMAGATA is coming exactly 31 days after I enlist.

Well not for me, but for Amateur Takes Control. Worldwide Festival is the brainchild of BBC1’s Gilles Peterson and getting into the festival’s Singapore stop or even noticed by Peterson for the radio show would be very nice for the guys. So vote!

A photo from Saturday’s show. Also:

ATC will be playing at the Esplanade Waterfront Stage on 27th February for some event which I’m not particularly sure about as details have not been out yet (I wonder why). From what I heard, Deepset from KL and Everybody Loves Irene from Indonesia will be playing as well.

Can’t wait!

The guys are raising funds so they can play SXSW (they are the 3rd Singaporean band to be invited there?)… so this is compulsory for everyone within a hundred miles. Attendance will be taken.

Amateur Takes Control’s new single Built on Miles of Hope out 18th April. Guys I love what you’re doing but please check your guitars’ intonation on the higher frets, because that’s really spoiling some of your recordings for me. SORRY I’M SUCH AN ASSHOLE BUT TUNING YOUR OPEN STRINGS ISN’T ENOUGH :O
