Hear Music in a Different Beat

Think there’s nothing in common between the melodic strums of your electric guitar and the emotive strings of the Indian sitar?

Think again as four popular contemporary bands collaborate with traditional musicians at this year’s Night Festival. Join us and rediscover Singapore’s culture through a showcase of music of the past and present coming together in a one-of-a-kind performance.

* Tiramisu
Collaboration with Keroncong Players

* Lunar Node

and Chinese Musical Instruments

* The Pinholes
Collaboration with Sitar Player
and Indian Percussion together
with Bollywood Dancers

See Culture in a Different Light

Come stay up late with the National Museum, Singapore Art Museum and the Peranakan Museum as they open shop and offer free admission to their galleries till 2am this Night Festival.

From soulful jazz numbers to public art installations, from night bazaars to touring exhibitions in the dark, there’s plenty of entertainment and activities for all.

Museums SEE DIFFERENT

Museums SEE DIFFERENT is National Heritage Board’s youth outreach initiative which aims to put youths in control of their own culture and heritage by encouraging them to interpret museums, culture and heritage differently themselves.

Night Festival @ SMU this coming weekend, with Amateur Takes Control, Lunar Node, and I expect quite a few more bands, but information is sorely lacking on the internets or I’m looking in the wrong places.
For This Cycle is having his EP launch at *scape this Saturday, 7pm.
17th July (Friday) sees Inch Chua playing solo at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre at 730 and 10pm.
18th July, Anna Judge April’s EP launch at *scape, 6pm, with guest bands Duxton Plains, Deputy Siren and Allura.

more gigs

Zero Sequence tomorrow (Friday) night, 7pm at Love the World Rock Bistro, Level 2, Singapore Flyer. Highly likely I’ll be there.

Allura’s frontwoman Inch Chua plays solo Saturday evening 5pm at GOHD Books (519 Serangoon Road #02-01). Might be there.

Gonna be late, ciao.

The Observatory “have recently finished recording the 4th album at duper studio in bergen, norway”. And they’re having what sounds like a crazy ambitious gig in June just two days before I go on block leave. Dammit dammit dammit.

WeekendTRIP - NOISE Edition. Some familiar acts, and a bunch of new ones. NOISE looks like they’re ready to show off the talents they’ve been incubating the past year. If Rachel Teo is any indication of the standards over there then this should be a great weekend. More info on the Facebooks.

Haven’t been posting much in the way of local music, so I’m just here to say Amateur Takes Control rocked the Esplanade tonight. They did a couple of new songs, some weird math rock vibes and Adel mumbled something about post-punk. I guess the next EP will be interesting.

Unfortunately I left the house too late to catch Everybody Loves Irene (all the way from Jakarta), and I couldn’t stay for West Grand’s gig at the recital studio. Too many things happening at once!

I would complain about my lack of gig kakis (The E only went with me today because of one ATC song), but pretty soon I won’t have the time for any gigs at all. RACHAEL FREAKING YAMAGATA is coming exactly 31 days after I enlist.

A photo from Saturday’s show. Also:

ATC will be playing at the Esplanade Waterfront Stage on 27th February for some event which I’m not particularly sure about as details have not been out yet (I wonder why). From what I heard, Deepset from KL and Everybody Loves Irene from Indonesia will be playing as well.

Can’t wait!

That’s what she said. He said. In Singapore. Yeaah.

Lunar Node’s “Exploring Unknown Territory” EP launch ticket/bookmark thingy. 167/300… should’ve reserved my ticket early
The CD packaging is totally awesome too — a shiny silver sleeve holds a grayscale print, folded into a sort of origami pocket with the CD in it, which actually unfolds into a large poster of the aurora/space-y design on the ticket. I can’t be bothered to photograph everything with my shitty phone so if you want a look+feel you should buy the EP :P

We covered Dream Theater’s Overture 1928 a couple of weeks ago. My skillz do not do justice to the awesome Roland Juno-G. Larger video here.
