Yesterday’s loot: the Monster Movie Music Album, $0.60, from the junk pile at Gramophone, where we spent an hour looking mostly at dance hit compilations from 1997?

Futuristic Movie Timeline#6 In A Series Of Pop-Cultural Charts

No one really pays much attention to what year sci-fi movies take place. I thought it would be interesting to arrange some classic films about the future into chronological order and see what we’d find. I’ve also charted the years in which they were released as well as the current year. This is by far the geekiest thing I’ve ever done.

Considering I’m going to be starting my degree majoring in Film and Television this July, there’s still a ton of important films I have yet to watch. I own a lot of them on DVD (or, ahem, for the ones that are harder to find, in my harddrive)… yet when I feel the need to watch a film, I always end up watching something entertaining yet mediocre and forgettable, like a good summer movie from last year.

I don’t know what exactly I’m waiting for… the right moment? The right feeling and mood? A group of people to watch it with? Strangely, I’ve always found film to be a more communal experience, vs. television being a more private one - so this is probably one of the reasons why it takes so much motivation for me to actually watch 2 hours of a movie vs 10 hours of 30 Rock.

Basically what I’m saying is… Movie marathon, anyone?

I feel exactly the same way, and my only solution so far is to buy bigger harddrives :P

I saw How I Met Your Mother for the first time today

It was just okay. Neil Patrick Harris is onscreen often, but not enough to make me want to keep watching the show. The other characters just aren’t that funny.

And plus I just constantly picture NPH doing that excersise dance skit from SNL a few weeks ago. And thrust.

It felt like they were trying to squeeze all the character dynamics from Friends into 3 people. I watched like half the first season overnight with a bunch of crazy people so it’s probably less funny than I remember.

Agreed completely. The HIMYM actors aren’t even that good, so it completely falls flat. And you were totally stoned, weren’t you?

Actually I had too much chicken (poorly planned potlucks tend to end up this way) and we’d just watched Casshern (some hilariously bad sci-fi live action movie based on an anime)… Good times.

Shit, what a good idea for a website! My suggestions: Requiem For A Dream, Dazed And Confused and About A Boy. Plus Across The Universe and Wall-E if you’re up for more recent flicks. Follow’d, btw.

Oh my laaaaawd, tumblr isn’t letting me sleep.

Hm, a good excuse to watch all these again :D
